RESTORATION OF WRITTEN HERITAGE

Our written heritage is exposed to many causes of degradation, from natural aging linked to the evolution of its constituents, to external pollution and increasing demands for consultation.

Our mission is to ensure the durability and safeguarding of our written heritage.

Paper restoration

Our restorers have at their disposal all the equipment and materials specifically dedicated to the treatment of old and contemporary papers.

The choice of their implementation methods is always the result of a concerted and appropriate reflection on the nature and level of damage to the support.

For each work, our restorers systematically take into account the parameters of the paper composition (nature, weight, tint) as well as those concerning inks or any other pigment.

Restoration of old coverings

Whether it is a question of leather bindings made on cardboard boards or on wooden boards, parchment or paper coverings, all our interventions are totally respectful of the techniques and materials of origin.

To do this, our bookbinders-restorers, perfectly trained in the techniques of vintage binding, are able to consolidate the existing without distorting the form, as well as to reproduce the gestures of yesteryear.

Restoration of figurative documents

The collections of archives, museums and libraries are rich in documents related to iconography (plans on paper, on tracing, on canvas, engravings, posters…).

The diversity of the supports, the techniques of illustration (inks, pigments, prints) and the modalities of good conservation and final protection of the documents are perfectly known and mastered by our conservators. This allows us to be able to always propose the most adequate project.

Restoration of sealed or unsealed parchment documents

The treatment of this type of documents, from the oldest collections, requires a unique know-how. This is one of the trademarks that have contributed to the full recognition of our know-how.

Parchment skins, seal supports (silk lakes, tails) and wax seals are therefore treated with the utmost care in compliance with the ethical rules governing their handling.

HANDMADE BINDING

For old registers as well as for administrative acts, new handmade and durable bindings can be made. We ensure the binding and the gilding of administrative acts of the town halls in the respect of the decree n°2010-783.

In the case of old registers requiring a replacement binding, we offer new traditional bindings, identical or new, in respect of the original materials.
